I started off with doing tutorials which allowed me to learn and develop my skills which I needed for the final production of my model, these tutorials helped me to use Lightwave Modeler and Lightwave Layout. Trying to use and learn from the tutorials was kinda difficult and stayed that way for a bit but eventually I learned, it took me a few tries to create a model but I got the hang of it.
To start off I had to model the design in Modeler, which wasn't particularly difficult due to all of the techniques and the training I got from the tutorial part of the project. I eventually found out that I could use 3/4 of the tools in modeler with much ease.
However, I did create a few problems for myself at this stage, however, that affected me later on when surfacing the model. When using the multishift tool to bring out some polygons at the side of the model, I accidentally twisted some of the polygons around, meaning this particular part of the model was difficult to surface and I even had to delete and recreate new polygons which took away time needed for other tasks.
After I modeled the design, I then put the model into Layout and began to surface and pose my model. I found that the preset textures were easy to apply to the model and made the model look far more refined.
One person who gave me some feedback, said that liked the design of my robot and everything looked well designed and simple. When I asked them about any negative points they told me that the colouring and texturing of my robot could of been more varied as it was mainly a chrome silver and glowing orange. I do agree with the feedback given to me as I also believe that there could of been more colours and the textures could be more alien like if I had the tools and time.
Overall, I think this project was a success, and I think the final result was a good product of what I did early on in the project, I did however had to rush my model meaning it could of looked a bit more detailed.
Finally I had strengths and weakness that include;
Strengths
- I was able to manage my time, and followed most of my schedule without having need to change much of it.
- My final robot was shaped almost exactly the same as the design pack with certain and little changes.
- The majority of the textures suited the alien and robotic style my robot was based on.
Weaknesses
- I couldn't really find suitable textures for my robots outer shell.
- Time that could of been spent on modelling my robot had to be redirected to doing previous work.
